1 Killed in Amtrak Train Accident on FM 78 in Guadalupe County

Driver Dies in Guadalupe County Crash on FM 78 near Marion

Guadalupe County, Texas (August 3, 2019) – A driver was killed Friday morning after his car slammed into an Amtrak train in Guadalupe County, according to authorities.

The deadly accident took place at about 9:30 a.m. Friday, August 2 in the 1000 block of FM 78, just east of Marion.

Authorities said the driver of a dually pickup truck crossed the tracks and failed to yield to the train.  Witnesses told authorities that the train sounded its horn, but the driver acknowledged the train.

There are no crossing arms or barricades at the crossing due to it being private.

The driver of the pickup truck died in the accident. The name of the victim has not been disclosed pending notification of family.

None of 116 people on board the train was injured. The train was headed to New Orleans from Los Angeles.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
