One Killed in Austin Multi-Vehicle Crash on Research Boulevard

Austin, Texas (November 11, 2020) – One person was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Halloween in Austin, according to police.

The fatal crash happened around 9:00 p.m., October 31, in the 11200 block of Research Boulevard.

Police said a Dodge Durango was traveling northbound in the outside lane while a Honda CR-V was traveling behind the Dodge.

The Dodge braked suddenly, causing the Honda to also stop. A vehicle traveling behind the Honda swiftly changed lanes to the left to avoid crashing into the Honda. A Jeep Wrangler that was traveling behind the vehicle couldn’t stop in time and rear-ended the Honda, pushing it into the Dodge.

The Dodge driver fled the scene after the crash.

The Honda driver was taken to St. David’s Medical Center in Round Rock, where he later died. A passenger in the Honda was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

The Jeep driver was also taken to the hospital, where they were treated and released.

The Dodge driver was later found, and they confessed.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with any information about the crash is asked to call APD’s Vehicular Homicide Unit at 512-974-6935 or submit a tip on the Austin PD app.

We pass our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons for driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
