1 Killed in Three-Vehicle Crash near SH 59 and Hwy 44 near Freer

One Killed in Freer Three-Vehicle Crash near State Highway 59 and Highway 44
Freer, Texas (May 4, 2019) – One person was killed in a three-vehicle crash Friday morning near Freer, according to the DPS.
The fatal crash was reported on Friday, May 3, near State Highway 59 and Highway 44.
DPS said a pickup truck attempted to pass an unmarked U.S. Border Patrol unit in a passing zone on westbound State Highway 59 and hit an eastbound SUV. The impact caused the pickup to roll back over the westbound lanes and into a bar ditch where it landed upright and burst into flames, trapping the driver.
The patrol unit then hit the eastbound SUV.
The pickup driver was killed in the crash.
The Border Patrol agent was taken to the hospital as a precaution. The SUV driver and their passenger were taken to Christus Spohn Hospital Alice with serious injuries.
The DPS is investigating the crash.
