15-Year-Old Killed in Harris County Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 6 near Loch Katrine Lane

Harris County, Texas (June 5, 2020) – According to the deputies, a 15-year-old was killed, and two other people were injured early Friday morning in a suspected DUI crash in northwest Harris County.

The fatal crash occurred just after 2:30 a.m. on Highway 6, near Loch Katrine Lane.

Deputies said a BMW was heading southbound on the highway when a Hummer pulled into the roadway and the vehicles collided.

The impact caused the BMW to split in two and the Hummer to crash into a ditch.

A 15-year-old passenger in the back seat of the BMW was pronounced dead at the scene. His family said the teenager was a star football player at his high school in North Texas, and he was planning to transfer to a Houston-area school.

The BMW driver and another passenger were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Hummer was not seriously injured in the crash.

Authorities said the Hummer driver was under the influence at the time of the crash and has been charged with driving while intoxicated. Additional charges are pending a blood test.

The crash closed both directions of the highway, and traffic was detoured at Keith Harrow.

The authorities are investigating the crash.

We pass our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

In Texas, a driver is legally intoxicated after consuming alcohol if their blood alcohol content (BAC) is .08% or higher. A driver is also considered intoxicated if they don’t have the normal use of their mental or physical faculties by reason of the introduction of alcohol. Alcohol however is not the only intoxicant, as drivers can become intoxicated by ingesting prescription and illegal drugs such as crack, marijuana, and cocaine.

Regardless of what substance caused the driver’s reaction time to become significantly altered, intoxication by any means can cause terrible accidents and injuries.

Innocent victims harmed by drunk drivers are entitled to compensation for their injuries, including but not limited to medical expenses; lost wages; pain and suffering and mental anguish; physical impairment and disability; and most importantly, punitive damages to deter future conduct. If a death occurred because of a drunk driver, you will want a knowledgeable accident lawyer to bring a wrongful death action against the drunk driver.
