Lampasas, Texas (June 19, 2021) – A 19-year-old was seriously injured on Friday in a motorcycle crash in Lampasas, according to the police.

The crash happened on June 18, at the intersection of Campbell Street and FM 580.

Police said a 57-year-old man was driving a pickup truck northbound on Campbell Street while a 19-year-old was riding a motorcycle westbound on FM 580.

The pickup stopped at the stop sign on FM 580 and then continued traveling northbound towards Old Convent Road and was hit by the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was airlifted to Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Temple with major injuries.

The pickup driver was cited for failure to yield at the intersection.

The authorities are investigating the crash.

Most motorcycle crashes are caused by negligent drivers who don’t keep a proper lookout or fail to yield the right-of-way. Because motorcyclists are vulnerable, their injuries are usually severe, often suffering from road rash, broken bones, brain injuries, amputations, or spinal cord injuries. In some cases, the accident results in death.
