24-Year-Old Killed in Head-On Crash on US 183 in Lampasas County

24-Year-Old Passenger Killed in Lampasas County Two-Vehicle Crash on US 183 

Lampasas County, Texas (June 3, 2020) – A 24-year-old was killed early Tuesday morning in a head-on collision in Lampasas County, north of Lometa, authorities said.

The fatal crash occurred around 1:18 a.m. June 2, on US 183.

Authorities said a 55-year-old Killeen resident was driving a 2009 Toyota RAV4 SUV northbound on the wrong side of the highway when he crashed head-on into a southbound 2017 Kia Optima driven by a 25-year-old Copperas Cove resident.

Other motorists had reported the RAV4 to the authorities moments before the crash.

Both vehicles were damaged in the crash.

A 21-year-old passenger in the Kia suffered minor injuries but declined treatment. Another passenger in the Kia, a 24-year-old Copperas Cove resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.

DPS said the driver of the RAV4 might have been under the influence at the time of the crash, and toxicology reports are pending.

The crash remains under investigation.
