36-Year-Old Man Killed in Houston Crash on Beechnut Street; Elvia Castillo Martinez Arrested

Houston, Texas (July 18, 2022) – According to the police, a man was killed early Saturday morning in a hit-and-run accident in Houston.

The deadly accident happened around 3:25 a.m., July 16, in the 7000 block of Beechnut Street.

Police said a 36-year-old man was driving a black Mercury GT5 southbound on the Southwest Freeway when his vehicle was side-swiped from behind by a black Mazda CV5 driven by Elvia Y. Castillo Martinez, 22.

The man and his passenger followed Castillo-Martinez as she exited the freeway and came to a stop at a light on Beechnut Street. He and his passenger pulled up next to Castillo Martinez’s vehicle and tried to get her attention. The man then pulled his vehicle in front of Castillo Martinez, and the passenger exited the vehicle. As the passenger attempted to exchange information with Castillo Martinez, the light turned green, and she immediately drove off and struck the man.

Castillo Martinez continued driving at a high rate of speed on Beechnut and struck a sidewalk and a parked vehicle.

She then pulled out of a private driveway and fled the scene.

The man was taken to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.

Castillo-Martinez was arrested a short time later and was charged with intoxication manslaughter.

The police are investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
