4 Migrants Killed, 3 Critically Injured in Car Crash on Interstate 35 in Encinal

Four Migrants Killed, Three Critically Injured in Encinal Crash on Interstate 35 near U.S. Mexico Border

Encinal, Texas (June 30, 2022) – Four migrants were killed and three other people critically injured after a traffic accident in Encinal on Thursday, authorities said.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash happened on Interstate 35, approximately 40 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border.

DPS said a white Jeep SUV transporting seven people was being chased by the United States Border Patrol agents heading northbound on Interstate 35.  The Jeep took an exit at a high rate of speed and lost control before crashing into the back of a parked tractor-trailer.

Four migrants in the Jeep died in the crash. Two of the deceased were from Guatemala and one from Mexico.

The driver of the Jeep, who is from the United States, was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition

Two other occupants of the Jeep were also hospitalized in serious condition. One of them was from Guatemala and the other from Mexico.

Further details regarding the collision were immediately provided.

The accident remains under investigation.
