James Edward Ewell III Killed in Street Racing Crash on McCullough Avenue in San Antonio

James Edward Ewell III Killed in San Antonio Three-Vehicle Crash on McCullough Avenue at Millwood Lane

San Antonio, Texas (June 25, 2020) – One of the two people who were killed Wednesday afternoon in a street racing crash in San Antonio ’s North Side has been identified as James Edward Ewell III, 20, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The fatal crash happened at about 4:30 p.m. on June 24, at the intersection of McCullough Avenue and Millwood Lane.

Police said two vehicles were racing southbound in the 8100 block of McCullough Avenue.

One of the cars lost control when a beige SUV entered the road at the intersection and went into a sideways skid before crashing into a tree.

The other car involved in the race collided with the SUV and came to a stop on the opposite side of McCullough.

Ewell and a woman in the car that crashed into the tree were declared dead at the scene. Three other people were in that car.

Five people were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

A fourth vehicle, a black sedan, which was possibly involved in the crash, fled the scene.

The racing drivers were described as in their late teens or early 20s.

The crash remains under investigation.
