Than Shwe and 9-Year-Old Girl Killed in Wilbarger County Three-Vehicle Crash on US 287

Wilbarger County, Texas – Two people were killed and seven others were injured Saturday evening in a three-vehicle crash in Wilbarger County, according to the authorities.

The fatal crash happened around 6:10 p.m., March 16, on US 287 near Oklaunion.

Authorities said a 2014 Honda Odyssey was traveling southwest on the highway when it failed to maintain its lane. A 2021 GMC Yukon was traveling southeast in the left lane and was passing a 2023 Honda Pilot in the right lane. The Honda Odyssey lost control on a curved section of the road, veered over the cable barrier, through the median, entered into the opposite lane, and collided head-on with the GMC. The Honda Pilot attempted to evade but was unable to avoid the collision, and struck the GMC.

The driver of the Honda Odyssey, 43-year-old Than Than Shwe from Vernon, Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 9-year-old Dallas girl who was a passenger in the GMC was also killed in the crash.

The GMC driver, 48-year-old Michael Mullens from Dallas, was taken to Wilbarger General with incapacitating injuries. His passengers, Marissa Mullens, 45, and three minors aged 15, 13, and 14, were taken to Wilbarger General with incapacitating injuries.

The driver of the Honda Pilot, 44-year-old Hernando Trejos from Fort Worth, and a passenger, Lorena Trejos, 39, from Fort Worth, were taken to Wilbarger General Hospital for treatment.

A pet Goldendoodle named Allie in the GMC went missing during the crash and anyone with information is encouraged to contact Sgt. Gutierrez at 254-413-8786.

The crash remains under investigation.
