Amarillo, TX –  The Amarillo Police Department (APD) has identified a man who died early Wednesday morning following a wrong-way traffic collision on Interstate 40 in Amarillo as 34-year-old Nicholas Bechthold.

The accident happened at about 4 a.m. in the 4400 block of Interstate 40 between Eastern Street and Grand Street.

According to APD, Bechthold was driving a 2018 Chevy Silverado westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-40 when he collided head-on with an eastbound semi-truck.

Bechthold was pronounced dead at the scene.

Amarillo, TX – The Amarillo police are investigating a deadly two-vehicle crash on Interstate 40 early Wednesday morning.

The deadly crash happened at about 4 a.m. on eastbound Interstate 40 between Eastern Street and Grand Street.

According to Amarillo Police, a semi-truck and a pickup truck were involved in the crash.

Authorities say at least one person was killed in the crash.

No additional information regarding the incident was provided.

The crash remains under investigation.
