El Paso, Texas – A 49-year-old woman was killed in a multi-vehicle crash early Sunday morning, in El Paso, according to the El Paso Police Department (EPPD).

The deadly accident happened at about 1:20 a.m. on August 4 at Interstate 10 West at Mile Marker 33 near Zaragoza, according to EPPD.

EPPD said a silver 2022 Honda Accord, operated by Sammy Almanza, 49, and a white 2020 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Jorge Alexis Gamboa, 25, of El Paso, were both traveling westbound on Interstate 10.

A semi-truck and a trailer had stopped on the right emergency lane of the freeway at MM 33.

Almanza and Gamboa attempted to go into the same lane and collided, causing both vehicles to lose control and spun around out of control.

Almanza’s car crashed into the rear of the semi-truck operated by Mustapha Saddiqi, 43, of Forney.

As per the EPPD, Almanza died at the scene.

No information regarding the driver of the white car was provided.

Authorities say speed, alcohol, and unsafe lane change were the main contributing factors in the deadly incident.

The crash remains under investigation.
