Fort Worth, TX — A Fort Worth police officer was hit and killed while working on the scene of a crash on Interstate 35 W Monday morning, according to the Fort Worth Police Department.
The Fort Worth Police Department identified the deceased officer as Sgt. Billy Randolph.
Sgt. Billy Randolph was responding to an initial accident where a tractor-trailer struck a barrier and caught fire.
Authorities say the officer was standing outside his vehicle during the cleanup on I-35 Southbound near Sycamore School Road when a 2020 Nissan Versa drove through the crash scene and struck him.
Randolph was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, according to the police.

According to the police, a tractor-trailer struck a guardrail around 2:40 a.m. on August 12 in the southbound lanes of I-35W at Sycamore School Road. The impact caused the trailer to catch fire and spilled fuel.
The driver was helped by some bystanders to exit the vehicle with only minor injuries.
According to the police, about three hours later the Nissan Versa drove through the accident scene and struck an officer Sgt. Bill Randolph.
The suspect, identified as 25-year-old De Aujalae Evans of Fort Worth, has since been arrested
The woman is charged with intoxication manslaughter causing the death of a peace officer or firefighter.
