The deadly accident happened at about 2:26 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024, in the 6500 block of North Lamar Boulevard.

Austin, TX – Two pedestrians were killed after being struck by a suspected intoxicated driver along North Lamar Boulevard early Saturday morning, according to the Austin Police Department (APD).
The deadly accident happened at about 2:26 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024, in the 6500 block of North Lamar Boulevard.

According to APD, officers responded to a scene and located two pedestrians and a vehicle. The pedestrians, identified as 22-year-old Luis Trevino Maldonado and 51-year-old Johnny Joe Reyes, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, identified as 22-year-old Edward Rodriguez remained at the scene and was arrested for driving while intoxicated.
Authorities say this incident is Austin’s 57th fatal collision in 2024, resulting in 61 fatalities for the year.
The deadly accident remains under investigation.
