Harlingen, TX – Oralia Garza, 77, of San Benito, was killed in a car accident in the Harlingen area on Friday afternoon, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The collision took place at about 1:27 p.m. on November 15, on FM 509 near FM 800.

The DPS said a silver 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling southbound on FM 509 when it attempted to overtake a semi-truck by swerving into the northbound side.

The Chevrolet then moved back into the southbound side to avoid an oncoming black 2021 Hyundai

Kona but ended up striking the left rear of the big rig.

The impact pushed the Chevrolet into the northbound side, where it collided with the Hyundai.

The driver of the Hyundai, identified as Garza, was pronounced deceased at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.

The driver of the Chevrolet and a passenger in the Hyundai were both hospitalized at Valley Baptist with critical injuries.

The accident is under investigation.
