The deadly accident happened at about 6:27 a.m. on Tuesday on the inside lane of FM 1015 north of Joe Olivarez Street.

Mercedes, TX – A 47-year-old Donna bicyclist, identified as Gerardo Reyes Gonzalez Angeles, was hit and killed by a box truck on FM 1015 in Mercedes, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The deadly accident happened at about 6:27 a.m. on Tuesday on the inside lane of FM 1015 north of Joe Olivarez Street.

Reportedly, Gerardo Angeles was riding his northbound on the inside lane of FM 1015, approaching Ramiro Guerra Drive when he was struck by a 2024 Ford E-450 box truck, also traveling northbound behind Reyes, from behind.

DPS say Grerardo was thrown off the bicycle and onto the asphalt and sustained major injuries. He was taken to the Knapp Medical Center where he later died.

The incident remains under investigation.
