Lubbock, TX – The Texas DPS has identified one of the two drivers killed in a two-vehicle traffic collision at a Lubbock intersection early Sunday morning.
The DPS identified the driver as 29-year-old Samantha Alwan from Lubbock. Authorities say Alwan worked as a firefighter in Plainview.
The deadly accident was reported around 6 a.m. on northbound Interstate 27 at County Road 5100.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a male driver of a 2014 Ford Escape was heading southbound in the northbound lane of the freeway and collided head-on with a northbound 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee operated by Samantha Alwan.
Both Alwan and the wrong-way driver were pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the male driver has not been released.
DPS said Alwan was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.

Lubbock, TX – Two drivers are dead after their vehicles collided head-on on Interstate 27 in Lubbock early Sunday morning.
The deadly accident was reported around 6 a.m. on northbound Interstate 27 at County Road 5100.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), a 2014 Ford Escape was heading southbound in the northbound lane of the freeway and collided head-on with a northbound 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Authorities say the Ford Escape caught fire following the collision.
Both drivers sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.
No additional information is available.
DPS troopers are investigating the incident.
