Tyler, TX – Two people were killed in a multi-vehicle traffic collision involving an 18-wheeler on Loop 323 in Tyler, according to Tyler Police Department.
The deadly accident happened at about 1 p.m. on December 17 at West Elm Street and SSW Loop 323.
Tyler Police Department said a preliminary investigation revealed that a GMC SUV, with 2 occupants, was on Elm Street on the west side of Loop 323 and was trying to turn north on the Loop. In the process, the SUV pulled in front of a southbound 18-wheeler, leading to the collision.
Police said the impact of the collision pushed both vehicles into the northbound lanes where three other vehicles got hit.

The two occupants of the GMC were pronounced dead at the scene. The two deceased victims were identified as 82-year-old William Connerly and 79-year-old Shirley Connerly, both from Kerens.
Two other drivers – including the driver of the 18-wheeler, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported.
The incident impacted all lanes on SSW Loop 323 from Front Street to West Erwin Street. The lanes were closed for about two hours as crews worked the scene.
