Hartley County, Texas — Six people, among them four children, are dead following a grisly two-vehicle traffic collision on US Highway 87 in Hartley County early Christmas Day, according to Hartley County Fire Department.
The deadly collision happened at about 12:26 a.m. on December 25 on US Highway 87, about seven miles east of Hartley.
According to Hartley Fire and EMS, a Honda Pilot SUV with a trailer and a 2016 Freightliner M2 box truck were involved in the collision.
Texas DPS said the Honda was heading westbound on US 87 when, for some reason, it veered into oncoming traffic lanes and collided with the box truck.
The impact of the collision caused the trailer to detach from the SUV. The SUV caught fire following the collision.
Six occupants of the Honda – two adults and four children – died in the accident.
The driver of the box truck was taken Coon Memorial Hospital in Dalhart with non-life-threatening injuries.
No additional information was provided.
The accident remains under investigation.
