Rio Grande, TX – A collision left a six-year-old boy dead on Friday morning in Rio Grande City, according to the Rio Grande Police Department.

The incident took place at about 7:31 a.m. January 17, on U.S. Highway 83 and FM 3167.

The police reported that two vehicles were involved in the incident.

A 6-year-old boy in one of the vehicles was taken to Starr County Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 7:55 a.m.

The boy was identified by the Rio Grande City Grulla Independent School District as Samuel Rafael Gamboa.

Two other parties involved in the collision were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Alcohol and drugs were not suspected to have played a role in the incident.

The accident is under investigation.
