Bellaire, TX. – A police officer was injured in a collision involving a suspected drunk driver early Friday morning in Bellaire.

According to the police, the accident happened around 1:46 a.m. on the Interstate 610 Freeway.

The officer had stopped on the freeway to help a stranded motorist when a van slammed into the back of the patrol car.

The officer and the van driver were injured in the accident and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

First responders noted the smell of alcohol on the van driver after the collision and charges for the driver are pending an investigation.

More details about the accident were not released.
