Austin, Texas (May 13, 2025) – The Killeen Fire Department Captain Marvin Taylor III was killed early Sunday in a rear-end crash in Austin.
The fatal crash happened on Mother’s Day, May 11 at around 1:05 a.m.
Officials said Captain Marvin Taylor III was leaving an Austin hospital after welcoming his fifth child. He was on his way to pick up his other children to introduce them to their new sibling when his vehicle was rear-ended by another vehicle, which was traveling at a high rate of speed.
Captain Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene. He began his service with the department on July 7th, 2014, and was promoted to the rank of Fire Captain on July 12th, 2024, and most recently assigned to the Training Division as the Operations Training Captain.
The driver of the other vehicle was taken into custody.
The crash remains under investigation.
