The deadly accident happened around 5:00 p.m. on July 8 on Interstate Highway 2 east of FM 506.

Harlingen, TX – A tow truck driver was killed Tuesday evening in a hit-and-run accident in Harlingen, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The deadly accident happened around 5:00 p.m. on July 8 on Interstate Highway 2 east of FM 506.
DPS said David Zapata, 46, of Mercedes, was on the shoulder of the highway securing another vehicle to the flatbed of his 2010 black Hino Tow Truck. A white Dodge Ram failed to slow down or move over and crashed into Zapata.
Zapata was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Dodge driver, Cristobal Stephan Garzez, 28, of Donna, fled after the accident but was located near the accident scene. He was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter, failure to slow down, move over causing death, failure to stop and render aid, and possession of a controlled substance. He was then booked into the Cameron County Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center.
The DPS is investigating the accident.
