Crosby County, TX. – Peggy Appleton, 71, died at the scene of a car accident that happened near Ralls in Crosby County on Tuesday morning.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident happened on U.S. 82 at U.S. 62 at around 11 a.m.
24-year-old Sergio Aviles of Guerrero, Mexico, was driving a tractor-trailer southwest on U.S. 62 when he disregarded a stop sign and collided with the driver-side door of a 2020 Toyota Tundra traveling east on U.S. 82
Both vehicles caught fire after the collision.
Appleton was driving the pickup truck and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger in the pickup truck, 78-year-old Terry Appleton of Hobbs, was taken to University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
Aviles was not injured. He was arrested and charged with criminally negligent homicide.
More details about the accident were not provided.
