Odessa, TX – A man was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident early Saturday morning in Central Odessa, according to the police.
The accident happened around 2:04 a.m. on August 9 at the intersection of University Boulevard and Andrews Highway.
Police said a silver Jeep Commander ran a red light at the intersection and struck a 35-year-old man who was riding a motorcycle.
The motorcyclist was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries before being taken to a Lubbock hospital.
The Jeep driver, Nathaniel Venegas, 34, fled the scene on foot. He was located in the 200 block of Barrow Drive. He was intoxicated and in possession of 4.9 ounces of marijuana at the time of his arrest. He was booked into the Ector County Law Enforcement Center. He was charged with intoxication assault causing serious bodily injury, collision involving personal injury, possession of marijuana between 4 ounces and 5 pounds, and evading arrest or detention. He had three prior DWI convictions.
The police are investigating the accident.
