Harris County, TX – One person was killed and another was injured Thursday morning after they were hit by a tire while working on a freeway in Harris County, according to the deputies.

The deadly accident happened just before 10:00 a.m. on October 2 in the 100 block of Monmouth Street.

Deputies said a group of men was repaving the northbound lane of the street while an 18-wheeler was traveling westbound.

At one point, the 18-wheeler lost its wheel while traveling, and the wheel fell from the main lanes and hit William Burns, a crew member. The tire then hit the paving machine and hit Jose Bonilla. A third crewmember, Israel Medellin, was also hit. The tire then redirected to the northeast side, where it struck an unoccupied Chevrolet Tahoe.

Bonilla was pronounced dead at the scene.

Medellin was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The condition of Burns was not disclosed.

The authorities are investigating the accident.
