Bell County, TX – A 39-year-old Gatesville man was killed Tuesday afternoon in a head-on collision in Bell County, according to the authorities.
The deadly collision happened on November 4 on Highway 36.
Authorities said they were looking for the man who was threatening self-harm and was wanted for investigation of assault causing bodily injury by impeding breath on a pregnant woman. They located him in a blue Dodge pickup truck near the White Flint Park. A ranger made contact with the man, but he sped off, heading eastbound on Highway 36. A deputy tried to stop the man, but he also fled. He continued heading eastbound, where he crossed the overpass for Texas Highway 317, crossed into oncoming traffic, and crashed head-on into a westbound semi-tractor pulling a flatbed trailer loaded with oil field pipe.
The force of the impact caused the pipe to dislodge.
The man died in the accident. His name has not been released.
The semi-truck driver, from Channelview, was taken to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple.
The collision remains under investigation.
