The deadly collision happened at about 6:00 a.m. on January 12 at the intersection of FM 866 and West University.

Ector County, TX – One person was killed, and two others were injured Monday morning in a three-vehicle collision in Ector County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The deadly collision happened at about 6:00 a.m. on January 12 at the intersection of FM 866 and West University.
DPS said a 2025 GMC Sierra was traveling northbound on FM 866 while a 2015 Peterbilt with a trailer was heading southbound. The Peterbilt turned eastbound onto West University and collided with the Sierra.
The Sierra then crashed into a 2003 Ford F-150 that was stopped at the intersection.
The Sierra driver, Jorge Zapata, 27, of Odessa, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, Mayrani Martinez Morales, 27, of Odessa, was taken to Odessa Medical Center Hospital with serious injuries. They were both wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.
The Ford driver sustained minor injuries in the accident. The driver of the Peterbilt was uninjured in the accident. They were both also wearing their seat belts.
No additional information was available.
The authorities are investigating the accident.
