Wise County, TX – One person was killed, and another was seriously injured Monday afternoon in an 18-wheeler accident near the Decatur Livestock Market, according to the DPS.
The fatal collision happened just after 3:00 p.m. on January 12 on FM 51 near Charlies Road.
DPS said a Ford F-150 was leaving the Decatur Livestock Market when it pulled onto the highway, failed to yield the right of way and was T-boned by a southbound Chico’s Trucking 18-wheeler.
The 18-wheeler left the roadway after the collision and struck multiple fences before coming to a stop across the driveway of a nearby residence.
The Ford driver, 84-year-old Rex Maxwell of Decatur, was airlifted to Medical City Denton, where he was pronounced dead.
The 18-wheeler driver, 50-year-old Martin Ceballos-Almanza, of Grand Prairie, was taken to Medical City Decatur with incapacitating injuries.
The accident closed both directions of FM 51.
The Texas DPS is investigating the accident.
