Elijah Ramírez, María Stephanie Rico Injured in Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash on U.S. 54 in El Paso

Maria Elena Rico Killed, Elijah Ramírez and María Stephanie Rico Hospitalized after El Paso Crash on U.S. 54 at Ellerthorpe Avenue
El Paso, Texas (January 7, 2019) – A woman was killed and three other people were injured last month in a multi-vehicle collision in northeast El Paso, according to police.
The deadly crash was reported shortly after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 19, 2018, on U.S. 54 southbound at Ellerthorpe Avenue.
Police said Maria Elena Rico, 47, was driving on U.S. 54 southbound when for an unknown reason her car traveled into the path of a semi-truck which struck it. Rico’s vehicle then collided with a pickup truck.
Rico was pronounced deceased at the scene. His passengers, 10-month-old Elijah Ramírez and Maria Stephanie Rico, 31, were transported to University Medical Center with major injuries.
The pickup truck driver, José Luis Aguayo, suffered minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital.
No other injuries were reported. The El Paso Police Department is investigating the wreck
