Abdullah Baidas Critically Injured in Houston Multi-Vehicle Crash on North Freeway at Rankin

Houston, Texas (April 13, 2020) – Two people were killed early Friday morning in a multi-vehicle crash in Houston, according to the authorities.

The fatal crash occurred around 1:30 a.m., April 10, on the North Freeway at Rankin.

Police said a Lincoln Navigator towing a trailer was traveling southbound on the freeway when it got a flat tire. The Navigator was occupied by a father, mother and their two children, a 1-year-old and 3-year-old.

The Navigator pulled over to the side of the freeway. A man driving a Mazda then rear-ended the trailer.

The man got out of his Mazda, and so did the mother in the Navigator. Both drivers stood outside their vehicles.

A Chevy Silverado swerved to avoid the crash and hit a wall and spun into the middle lanes of the freeway.

A Chevy Suburban pulled over after the driver, Abdullah Baidas, saw the crash, and he got out to help.

An Amazon delivery truck then crashed into all the vehicles and ran over the drivers who were standing outside their vehicles. The man and woman were killed in the crash. One of the victims has been identified as Kedrick Conrad Cox. The other victim has not been identified.

Baidas jumped off the overpass when he saw the Amazon truck coming. He landed at least 10 to 15 feet below and called 911 to report the crash. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. His uncle said Baidas is in an intensive care unit, and both his legs had to be amputated.

The two children in the Navigator were properly restrained. They and a man were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Investigators said the road was slick at the time of the crash.

The crash closed the freeway for several hours.

The crash remains under investigation.

We wish Abdullah Baidas a quick recovery.

“When a person has suffered a grave personal injury in an accident due to someone else’s negligence, the most overwhelming emotion they feel is a sense of injustice. They often ask how such a life-altering event could have happened to them,” attorney Joel A. Gordon said. “The next question usually is, who can help me?” Mr. Gordon added.

A legal advocate can represent an injury victim or the family of a deceased victim. The attorney will file a claim on behalf of the victim and will have the responsibility of citing existing codes, laws or statues which were violated.
