Tanker Truck Driver Hurt in La Salle County Crash with Freight Train at Ledwig Ranch Entrance near Frio County Line

La Salle County, Texas (November 30, 2017) – One person was taken to a hospital following a collision between a tanker truck and a freight train on Tuesday at a grade crossing near Dilley, according to La Salle County Sheriff’s office.
The crash happened at about 10 p.m. Tuesday, November 28, at the Ledwig Ranch entrance near Frio County line.
The La Salle County Sheriff’s Office stated that a northbound Union Pacific freight train collided with an 18-wheel tanker truck that had been crossing the tracks from the private ranch road at a grade crossing near Dilley. The tanker truck was hauling about 9790 gallons of crude oil from an energy industry site off Ledwig Ranch Road which were all ignited in the crash.
Authorities said that the grade crossing has no barricades; therefore, heavy vehicles and buses should stop and watch for trains before proceeding over the railroad line.
Reports said that the driver of the tanker truck was taken to Frio Regional Hospital in Pearsall by an ambulance for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. The victim was reportedly released from the hospital.
No other injuries were reported in the crash.
