1 Killed, 1 Injured in Lubbock Pedestrian Accident on Idalou Road

Lubbock, TX – One person was killed and another was seriously injured after they were struck by a vehicle on Idalou Road in Lubbock on Wednesday last week, according to the Lubbock Police Department.

The deadly accident happened at about 7:30 p.m. on November 20 in the 4000 block of Idalou Road.

According to the police, Lubbock police and EMS responded to the scene and located two people hit by a vehicle.

Authorities said the two pedestrians were walking back from the store when they were hit by a vehicle.

One pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was moderately injured and was transported by EMS to UMC.

Reportedly, the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Julian Mercado, fled the scene after hitting the two pedestrians. The Lubbock PD arrested Mercado on November 22. Mercado was charged with failure to stop and render aid causing death.

The Idalou Road access road was shut down in both directions following the incident

The accident remains under investigation.
