Andrew Williams, Rodney Christian Hospitalized after Fiery 2-Vehicle Crash on U.S. 96 in Shelby County

Andrew Williams and Rodney Christian Injured in Shelby County Crash on U.S. 96 near Center
Shelby County, Texas (December 21, 2018) –Two people were hospitalized Thursday morning following a traffic accident in Shelby County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The wreck happened at around 5:45 a.m. Thursday, December 20 on U.S. 96, approximately five miles south of Center.
The preliminary crash investigation indicated that a GMC pickup was heading northbound on U.S. 96 when for an undetermined reason it drifted into the southbound lanes and hit the side of a Peterbilt truck tractor semi-trailer.
As a result of the collision, the truck tractor semi-trailer then veered off the road and rolled over. It then spilt diesel fuel and burst into flames.
Andrew Williams, 28, of San Augustine, who was the driver of the GMC, was taken to an area hospital with unspecified injuries.
The operator of the Peterbilt, Rodney Christian, 46, of Lufkin, was also taken to a local hospital with undisclosed injuries.
Cleaning and clearing operations were performed at the scene.
DPS is investigating the cause of the accident.
