Clay County, Texas – The teenager who was killed on May 31 in a three-vehicle crash in Clay County has been identified as Bailey Layne McGlothlin15, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around noon, on US Highway 287, about a quarter mile south of Bellevue.

DPS said Donald Anthony Shelton Jr., 47, Houston, was driving a 2020 truck tractor towing a semi-trailer and was stopped on the right shoulder of the highway. James Clifton McGlothlin, 48, Fort Worth, was driving a Chevrolet Malibu southbound when he failed to stay in his lane and rear-ended the 2020 truck tractor.

The impact caused the Malibu to spin clockwise and hit a 2017 truck tractor towing a semi-trailer driven by Matthew Gavin Lowe, 45, of Decatur, AL.

The Malibu came to a rest across both southbound lanes.

A passenger in the Malibu, Bailey, was pronounced dead at the scene.

James was transported to Texas Health Harris Methodist Fort Worth with incapacitating injuries.

No other injuries were reported in the crash.

The DPS is investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
