Brenda Guerrero, Juan Diaz Veloz and Two Children Injured in Three-Vehicle Crash at FM 1788 and CR 140
Midland, Texas – One person was killed and four others were injured Monday evening in a fiery three-vehicle crash in Midland, according to the Texas DPS.
The fatal crash happened around 6:30 p.m., May 6, at the intersection of FM 1788 and CR 140.
DPS said Lorenzo Najera, 33, from Midland, was driving a Ford on FM 1788 when he attempted to pass a towed trailer that was traveling southbound in front of him. He failed to pass to the right safely and hit the trailer, which caused him to lose control of the vehicle and drive into oncoming traffic where he crashed into a northbound Chevrolet.
The Ford was thrown off the roadway where it caught on fire.
Najera was pronounced dead at the scene. His passengers, 32-year-old Brenda Guerrero, a 10-year-old girl, and a 3-year-old girl were taken to the Midland Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
The Chevrolet driver, 64-year-old Juan Diaz Veloz of Midland, was also taken to Midland Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the trailer was uninjured in the crash.
The DPS is investigating the crash.
