Firefighter Greg Garza Killed in San Antonio Pedestrian Accident at Live Oak Street and Dawson Street

San Antonio, Texas (October 16, 2019) – A San Antonio firefighter was hit and killed by a commercial van while responding to a fire call Tuesday morning in San Antonio, according to officials.

The accident happened on Tuesday, October 15, at the Comfort Suites hotel located at the corner of Live Oak Street and Dawson Street, near I-37 and East Houston Street.

Officials said Greg Garza, a 17-year veteran of the department, was getting out of the fire engine when he tripped or stumbled out of the truck and was hit by a commercial van.

Garza was rushed to the hospital where he later died.

The San Antonio Police Department is conducting the investigation.
