Dickinson, Texas (September 4, 2018) – The two women who were killed Sunday night when they were hit by a vehicle while trying to save a dog that was in the middle of a road in Dickinson have been identified as Martha Arvidsson, 66, and Linda Kirkland, 69, of Dickinson. Kirkland is the mother of a former KPRC employee, according to a local news source.
The fatal crash was reported just after 8:00 p.m. Sunday, September 2 on F.M. Road 517 at Houston Avenue.
According to police, the two women had parked their vehicles and turned their emergency lights on, then attempted to round up the dog.
Police said Fernando Octaviani, 36, of Friendswood, fatally hit the women and the dog with his 2017 Infiniti.
Octaviani stopped at the scene and complied with the police. He was later charged with an invalid driving license and failure to maintain financial responsibility.
As per the report, Kirkland had volunteered for years with the group Southern Comforts Animal Rescue. On Saturday, she would have celebrated her 70th birthday with her family, including her husband of 51 years.
A GoFundMe page was created to help the family of Kirkland with any uncovered expenses.
The crash remains under investigation.
