Officer Vicente Ortiz Dies in Motorcycle Crash on Kostoryz Road in Corpus Christi
Corpus Christi, Texas – The police officer who was critically injured on May 21 in a motorcycle crash in Corpus Christi has died, according to the Corpus Christi Police Department.
Senior Officer Vicente Ortiz was pronounced dead on Saturday, June 1.
The crash happened around 1:36 p.m., at the intersection of Kostoryz Road and Sacky Drive.
Police said Officer Ortiz was riding a motorcycle southbound on Kostoryz Road and was riding as part of a Corpus Christi motors unit that was conducting traffic control during a funeral procession. Another vehicle was traveling eastbound on Sacky Drive and was attempting to turn northbound onto Kostoryz Road when it struck Officer Ortiz.
Officer Ortiz was taken to a local hospital where he died 11 days later.
A GoFundMe page was created for the officer on May 24 to support his family while Ortiz was in the hospital.
The other driver was cited for failing to yield the right-of-way to an emergency vehicle, along with interference with a funeral procession.
The police are investigating the crash.
