Houston, TX – A 69-year-old man was killed in an accident that occurred at the scene of a prior collision in Houston last week on Friday, according to the Houston Police Department.
The incident happened at about 8 a.m. January 10, in the 7500 block of Bellfort Street.
HPD reported that the man, who had been a passenger in a vehicle involved in an earlier collision, was standing on the sidewalk near the guardrail when a black Chevrolet Impala heading east on Bellfort Street approached the scene.
The driver of the Impala then tried to avoid striking the vehicles in the roadway and moved to the right, slamming into the guardrail.
The pedestrian reportedly jumped over the guardrail to avoid the Impala and landed under the bridge in a grassy area.
HPD report indicates that the pedestrian was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The driver of the Impala, a 39-year-old woman, stayed at the scene and was not suspected of DUI. An investigation into the collision is ongoing.
