Idalou, Texas (February 5, 2018) – One person was hospitalized with major injuries after a crash involving two vehicles in Idalou on Wednesday morning, according to DPS reports.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, Jan. 31, on US 62 just west of FM 400.
Authorities said thick black smoke reduced visibility to zero in the area.
According to a DPS report, two vehicles entered the smoke. A white Chevy pickup, driven by Walter Verkamp, 54 of Idalou, slowed down due to poor visibility and the second vehicle, a jeep driven by Rebecca Roundtree, 48 of Ralls, ran into the back of Chevy.
According to a DPS report, Verkamp was not injured.
Rebecca Roundtree sustained incapacitating injuries and was taken by private conveyance to Star ER in Lubbock.

We understand this is a difficult time for the family of those affected by a tragic accident, and we offer our sincere sympathies. While the thought of hiring a law firm may not feel appropriate at this time, as a public service we like to advise that in some cases it may be important to immediately begin securing evidence (such as photos of skid marks and property damage) and witness statements before it’s too late.
