Amarillo, Texas – A pregnant woman and her 6-year-old son were killed Friday evening in a two-vehicle crash in Amarillo, according to the Amarillo Police Department.
The fatal crash happened around 7:35 p.m., May 24, at the intersection of West Amarillo Blvd and N Florida Street.
Police said Abdurahman Garang Hussein,19, was driving a 2013 Chevy Camaro eastbound at an extremely high rate of speed in the inside lane of West Amarillo Blvd, while Rocio Castejon,26, was driving a 2004 Honda Accord northbound on Florida Street.
Castejon pulled out from a stop sign but stopped, just in the outside lane of West Amarillo Blvd, when she saw the oncoming Camaro.
Hussein failed to maintain a single lane and crashed into the Honda.
Castejon, her unborn child, and her 6-year-old son were pronounced dead at the scene.
Hussein was booked into Potter County Sheriff’s Office Jail on three charges of Manslaughter.
Alcohol and speed were factors in the crash.
The Traffic Investigation Unit of the Amarillo Police Department is investigating the crash.
Common Causes of Automobile Accidents
There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality. At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.
