UPDATE: Woman Dies in Eastex Freeway Collision With Wrong Way Driver; Suspect Arrested

According to HPD, at about 7 p.m. on October 9, Humble Police spotted a stolen vehicle, occupied by a male driver and a female passenger, at a hotel on US 59 in Houston.

Woman Killed, Man Injured in Eastex Freeway Collision Involving Wrong-Way Driver

Harris County, TX – An innocent female driver was killed after a police chase ended with a suspect driver colliding head-on with another vehicle on US-59 in Harris County Wednesday evening.

According to HPD, at about 7 p.m. on October 9, Humble Police spotted a stolen silver Chevrolet Trailblazer, occupied by a male driver and a female passenger, at a hotel on US 59 in Humble.

The police attempted to stop it, but the vehicle fled at a speed of over 100mph. The vehicle traveled southbound on I-59 to Greens where it made a U-turn and went northbound to FM 1314 in Montgomery County.

At some point, the female passenger exited the vehicle and the suspect continued driving. The woman was arrested by Humble Police.

The Humble police requested Houston PD Air Support to help locate the suspect.

Reportedly, the suspect drove the wrong way several times while being pursued.  The suspect drove southbound in the northbound lanes of the freeway, cut across the northbound lanes, went across the median and into the northbound feeder road from Rankin, and collided head-on with a silver Kia Soul at about 7:30 p.m.

The driver of the Kia, who was only identified as a 40-year-old woman, sustained critical injuries and was taken to Kingwood Hospital where she died.

Her passenger, a 43-year-old man was also injured in the accident.

The 25-year-old male suspect was arrested.

According to HPD, the northbound feeder of US-59 at Greens was closed for several hours.

The incident remains under investigation.
