Adrienne Sophia Exum Killed in Houston Two-Vehicle Crash on West Road

Houston, Texas (November 23, 2020) – A 19-year-old woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon in Houston, according to deputies.

The fatal crash happened around 1:30 p.m., November 22, in the 200 block of West Road.

Deputies said a fight broke out between two men at a parking lot of a bank. One of the men got into a Mazda 3 driven by Adrienne Sophia Exum, 19, and she sped away without her seatbelt on and the door open.

The Mazda was then struck by a Dodge pickup truck, ejecting Exum. She was pronounced dead at the scene after she hit her head on the pavement.

The Dodge driver, Heriberto Fuerte-Padilla, attempted to flee the scene on foot but was apprehended nearby and arrested. He has been charged with driving while intoxicated and failure to stop and render aid.

The two men who were involved in the fight were also detained.

The crash remains under investigation.

We pass our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Adrienne Sophia Exum.

In Texas, a driver is legally intoxicated after consuming alcohol if their blood alcohol content (BAC) is .08% or higher. A driver is also considered intoxicated if they don’t have the normal use of their mental or physical faculties by reason of the introduction of alcohol. Alcohol however is not the only intoxicant, as drivers can become intoxicated by ingesting prescription and illegal drugs such as crack, marijuana, and cocaine.

Regardless of what substance caused the driver’s reaction time to become significantly altered, intoxication by any means can cause terrible accidents and injuries.

Innocent victims harmed by drunk drivers are entitled to compensation for their injuries, including but not limited to medical expenses; lost wages; pain and suffering and mental anguish; physical impairment and disability; and most importantly, punitive damages to deter future conduct. If a death occurred because of a drunk driver, you will want a knowledgeable accident lawyer to bring a wrongful death action against the drunk driver.
