Laredo, Texas (January 22, 2022) – According to the police, a man has been arrested in connection to the December 23 hit-and-run crash that left a motorcyclist dead in Laredo.

Jose Luis Musquiz, 50, was arrested on December 24 after he turned himself in.

The deadly crash happened around 8:30 p.m., at the intersection of McPherson Road and Shiloh Drive.

Police said Musquiz was driving a gray Chevy Silverado truck when he crashed into a motorcycle ridden by Alan Covarrubias, 28.

Covarrubias was taken to Doctors Hospital, where he later died.

Musquiz fled the scene after the crash. He turned himself in the next day and pointed out damage to his vehicle from the accident. The truck appeared to have been washed and detailed. He was then arrested and served with warrants charging him with an accident involving death and tampering with evidence.

The police are investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation
