Allen Scott Carter Killed and Jessica Micheal Carter Critically Injured in Smith County Motorcycle Crash on FM 850 near Chapel Hill

Smith County, Texas (September 12, 2020) – One person was killed, and two others were injured in a three-vehicle crash Thursday evening in Smith County, according to the DPS.

The fatal crash happened at about 5:04 p.m., September 10, on FM 850, east of Chapel Hill.

According to a preliminary investigation, Dean Richard Anderson, 58, of Tyler, was driving a 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 eastbound and was attempting to make a left turn into a private drive. At the same time, Allen Scott Carter, 35, of Tyler, and Jessica Micheal Carter, 35, of Tyler, were riding their 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycles eastbound and attempted to pass the Dodge to the left, in a legal passing zone. Both motorcycles crashed into the Dodge.

Allen was pronounced dead at the scene. Jessica was taken to UT-Health – Tyler in critical condition.

Anderson was treated and released at UT-Health – Tyler.

The crash remains under investigation.
