Amy Martinez Killed in Clarendon Two-Vehicle Crash on US 287; Frias-Aragonez Arrested

Clarendon, Texas (December 19, 2019) – A woman was killed in a suspected DUI crash last week Thursday, west of Clarendon, according to the DPS.

The crash took place at about 8:00 a.m., December 12, on US 287.

DPS said Delfino Frias-Aragonez, 51, of Dallas, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet pickup westbound on US 287 when he abruptly crossed the median at an acute angle. The pickup rotated once in the median before entering the eastbound lanes where it crashed head-on into a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Amy Martinez, 25, of Clarendon.

Investigators said the pickup’s speedometer was stuck at 82 when it came to rest. Witnesses said it had been traveling faster than that before it entered the median.

Three people had to be extricated from the vehicles.

Frias-Aragonez and Martinez were taken to an Amarillo hospital for treatment. Miguel Angel Zuniga-Artesan, 49, of Dallas, who was a passenger in the pickup and Jose Morales, Jr., 26, of Clarendon, who was a passenger in the Malibu were also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Martinez underwent surgery and was sadly declared dead around 12:44 p.m. on Friday, December 13.

Frias-Aragonez is facing charges of first-degree Intoxicated Manslaughter and third-degree Intoxicated Assault. He is being held at the Donley County Jail.

Frias-Aragonez and Zuniga-Artesan are not US citizens and are believed to be in the country illegally, according to the authorities.

The crash remains under investigation.
