Anthony Childers, Barbara Matthews Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash on Avenue Q in Lubbock

Anthony Childers and Barbara Matthews Killed in Lubbock Motorcycle Crash at 47th Street and Avenue Q

Lubbock, Texas (September 17, 2020) – Two people were killed in a hit-and-run crash Tuesday night in Lubbock, according to police.

The fatal crash happened around 10:13 p.m., September 15, in the 4600 block of Avenue Q near 47th Street.

Police said a Buick Lacrosse was traveling southbound behind a motorcycle ridden by 40-year-old Anthony Childers.

The Buick then crashed into the motorcycle and fled the scene.

Childers and his passenger, 31-year-old Barbara Matthews of Hobbs, New Mexico, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Buick was found abandoned shortly after the crash.

The crash closed the northbound and southbound lanes of Avenue Q.

The authorities are investigating the crash. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Crime Line at (806) 741-1000 or the Major Crash Investigation Unit at (806) 775-2753.
