Anthony Diaz ID’d as Man Killed in Austin Bicycle Accident on San Jacinto Boulevard near 22nd Street
Austin, Texas (January 31, 2019) – The bicyclist who was fatally struck by a Capital Metro bus Monday night in Austin has been identified as 49-year-old Anthony John Diaz, according to the University of Texas police.
The deadly accident took place at about 10:32 p.m. January 28, on San Jacinto Boulevard near 22nd Street at the UT campus.
Police said Diaz was riding a bicycle northbound on San Jacinto Boulevard when a northbound Capital Metro bus struck him.
Diaz was trapped underneath the bus after the impact, and he was declared dead at the scene. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and had lights on the front and back of his bicycle.
The bus had eight passengers on board at the time of the accident. Police said no one on the bus was injured.
No further details were provided.
The UT police are investigating the crash.
