Ward County, Texas (February 15, 2021) – One person was killed, and another was injured Sunday morning in an 18-wheeler crash in Ward County, according to troopers.

The fatal crash happened around 9:40 a.m., February 14, on Interstate 20, four miles west of Pyote.

According to a preliminary investigation, an 18-wheeler driven by Alexander Garcia, 45, of Miami, Florida, was disabled in the roadway from a crash and was blocking the eastbound lanes of the interstate.

Arturo Ayala, 61, of Bellflower, California, was driving an 18-wheeler eastbound when he began to brake, went into a skid, and crashed into Garcia’s truck.

Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger was uninjured in the crash.

Ayala was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Interstate 20 was closed for several hours.

The crash remains under investigation.

“When a person has suffered a grave personal injury in an accident due to someone else’s negligence, the most overwhelming emotion they feel is a sense of injustice. They often ask how such a life-altering event could have happened to them,” attorney Joel A. Gordon said. “The next question usually is, who can help me?” Mr. Gordon added.

A legal advocate can represent an injury victim or the family of a deceased victim. The attorney will file a claim on behalf of the victim and will have the responsibility of citing existing codes, laws or statutes which were violated.
